EXECUTIVE MEMORANDUM No. C-13

BACKGROUND:
In the early 1960's Purdue University established a program to provide fringe benefits for hourly-paid clerical/service staff who work half time (20 hours per week) or more on a continuing basis. Based on recommendations from the University Compensation and Benefits Committee and the University administration, the Board of Trustees, at its meeting on June 26, 1987, approved a proposal to provide fringe benefits to continuing part-time faculty and administrative/professional staff.
POLICY:
Part-time faculty and administrative/professional staff employed half-time or more for a period of time which is expected to continue for more than one year are eligible to participate in the following fringe benefit programs:
Restrictions, waiting periods, and any other conditions which are related to specific benefit programs will apply. Credit for service prior to August 1, 1987 will be granted in cases where employment was continuing and permanent in nature. Fringe benefits will not be provided to visiting or temporary staff, part-time lecturers, or staff in similar classifications.
PROCEDURE:
Staff who have satisfied required waiting periods are eligible to begin participation on August 1, 1987. The Department of Staff Benefits, Payroll and Insurance will contact eligible staff to arrange for benefit enrollments. Departments should ensure that new hires are provided with benefit materials upon appointment. As literature is updated dealing with employee benefits, these provisions will be incorporated.

and Insurance on the West Lafayette campus. At the Regional Campuses
questions should be directed to the chief business officer.
