Introduction
The primary purpose of the Collection Development Policy is to identify the long-term and short-term goals of the Latino Cultural Center (LCC) Book Collection. The policy will inform users about the collection, as well as guide those involved in the selection and maintenance of the materials by making the objectives of the library explicit.
Mission Statement
To build and house a supplemental collection of books and multimedia resources that is relevant to the Latino Cultural Center, its mission, and the strategic plan of Purdue University.
Goals
It is the goal of the center to build a resource center that is unique to Purdue and offers a centralized concentration of books pertaining to Latin America, its culture, and its people.

Subject Areas Collected
Formats
The materials collected will consist primarily of monographic and edited anthologies. Other electronic resources will consist of VHS cassette tapes, DVDs, and CDs.
Geographic Areas
The collection will consist of books and materials in the specified subject areas that are in some way relevant to Latin America and its people. The geographic scope of the collection will cover all of Latin America. This includes Mexico, South America, and Central America, including islands of the Caribbean. Subject matter that pertains to Latino culture, people, or issues is unrestrained by geographic boundaries.
Languages
The primary language of the library is English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Sources of Budget Allocation, Gifts, and Donations
The materials, books, and funds will be obtained through gifts, donations, and future fundraising activities. A detailed budgetary overview of the money the library will spend on the various information resources has not yet been determined. The library accepts gifts and donations in accordance with the criteria applied to materials purchased. However, the acquisitions and holdings of all library materials remain exclusively the right of the LCC staff.
Suggestions
All formal complaints or comments should be submitted in writing to the LCC staff, who will be responsible for the manner and method in which each issue is addressed.
