Descriptions of Positions

The LCC will be accepting applications for the following positions/committees:

Latino Student Council (LSC) member: This person attends LSC meetings, representing Embajadores and updating both organizations on activities.

Newsletter staff: These volunteers compile, produce, and organize the newsletter project.

Special Project Committees: These are established to engage the membership in the work of the organization, to meet the objectives of the organization, and  to develop leaders. These committees are intended to fairly distribute work and responsibilities and create ownership over programs such as Día de los Muertos, of which all committees have a part in.

Recreation & Health: The responsibilities of this committee are to promote, create, and direct recreational and athletic events to establish a stronger sense of community and belonging among Latino students at Purdue. Activities included are soccer nights, basketball tournaments, and various other ways to promote culture and unity through health-related events.

Community Outreach: The responsibilities of this committee are to organize, plan, and direct mentoring programs with local high school students in order to increase both retention and graduation of Latinos in higher education. Along with the mentoring program, the members of this committee conduct tours of the center and serve in many panels across the campus for outreach.

Culture & Art: This committee coordinates cultural programs throughout the school year and sustains ongoing programs such as Día de los Muertos craft stations and other related activities, movie night, cultural dinners, sporting activities and outings, and social gatherings.

Social Justice: This committee promotes civic consciousness and responsibility through programming events that inform and educate about Latino perspectives on current events.

Applicants note: Please keep in mind that these committees/positions cross over into each other, so you may not be working solely in one area.
