Psychological Sciences

We are pleased with your interest in our doctoral degree programs. Before you continue with the electronic application for admission to our PhD. programs, we wish to ensure that you are familiar with the minimum requirements for admission to our PhD. degree programs in Psychological Sciences. It is important to recognize that although satisfaction of these basic requirements does not guarantee graduate admission, failure to satisfy these requirements may lead to automatic denial of admission.

Supporting Documents: Additional documents are required to support the application. Supporting documents should be submitted on-line via the Graduate School application system, with the exception of transcripts, which are to be mailed directly to the graduate program to which you are applying. Supporting documents include the following, unless specific instructions are noted in the "Completing the Application" section of this page:

  • Transcripts (mailed to department) Psychological Sciences will NOT accept unofficial transcripts and/or academic documents uploaded through the online application system for review purposes. You must provide official transcripts and/or academic records at the time of application.
  • GRE Test (reported directly by ETS)
  • English Proficiency (reported by ETS)
  • Recommendation letters (submitted on-line via the Graduate School application system)
  • Statement of Purpose (submitted on-line via the Graduate School application system)
  • Resume/Curriculum Vita (submitted on-line via the Graduate School application system)

Application Deadlines: Applications and all supporting documentation must be received on or before the deadlines listed below:

Completing the application:

  • Hard copy transcripts are the only documents that should be mailed to the department.
  • One official transcripts from each college or university attended are required.

Doctoral Degree Program Basic Requirements

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average:

  • TOEFL for Non-Native English Speakers: 
       Minimum Paper-Based Test (PBT) Score Required: 550
       Minimum Internet-Based Test (IBT) Overall Score Required: 77
       With the following minimum section requirements:
        Reading: 19
        Listening: 14
        Speaking: 18
        Writing: 18                      
  • IELTS (Academic Module):
        An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 6.5 or higher will be accepted
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic Module):
        An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 58 or higher will be accepted
  • TWE for Non-Native English Speakers 
       
    Not required, but recommended

Non-Thesis Master's Degree Program Basic Requirements for Current Political Science Graduate Students

The Department of Psychological Sciences accepts applications for a non-thesis master's program from applicants who have been awarded a Master's degree in Political Science and who have also been admitted to Purdue's Ph.D. Program in Political Science. Students must obtain the consent of both Departments to be admitted to this program. Additional requirements and application procedures may be found on the Department of Psychological Sciences web page.

Non-Thesis Master's Degree Program Basic Requirements for Current Purdue Industrial Engineering Graduate Students

The Department of Psychological Sciences accepts applications for a non-thesis master's program from applicants who have been awarded a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering at Purdue University and who have also been admitted to Purdue's Ph.D. Program in Industrial Engineering. Students must obtain the consent of both Departments to be admitted to this program. Additional requirements and application procedures may be found on the Department of Psychological Sciences web page.

Current master’s students wishing to move to a doctoral degree program in this same graduate program will not be required to submit a new application.
