Management (PhD)

We are pleased with your interest in our graduate program. Before you continue with the electronic application for admission, we wish to ensure that you are familiar with the minimum requirements for admission to graduate degree study in Management. It is important to recognize that although satisfaction of these basic requirements does not guarantee graduate admission, failure to satisfy these requirements may lead to automatic denial of admission.

Supporting Documents: Additional documents are required to support the application. Supporting documents should be mailed directly to the graduate program to which you are applying. Supporting documents include the following, unless specific instructions are noted in the "Completing the Application" section of this page:

  • Transcripts - Management will accept unofficial transcripts and/or academic documents uploaded through the online application system for review purposes.  You will only need to provide official transcripts and/or academic records at the request of Management or if you are recommended for admission.
  • GRE Test
  • English Proficiency
  • Recommendation letters - Two (2) recommendation letters are required to support your application in Economics. Your appraisers may submit the letters online through the electronic application or they can send a support letter to the mailing address listed below.
  • Statement of Purpose (see below)
  • Resume

Application Deadline for all Management Doctoral Programs: Applications and all supporting documentation must be received on or before January 15th .

Completing the Application:

  • Letters of Recommendations: Two (2) recommendations are required for the Krannert Doctoral Programs.
  • An essay concerning your purpose for seeking a Doctor of Philosophy degree, your reasons for wanting to study at Purdue University, and your research interests, along with your professional plans for the future. Please try to keep your statement of purpose to 4 pages or less.

Doctoral Degree Program Basic Requirements

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average:
    3.0 or equivalent required
  • Master's Degree Completion:
    Preferred
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT):
    Required -- no minimum score set: however, a total score in the high 80
    percentile or above is preferred

International Applicant Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average:
    3.0 or equivalent required
  • Master's Degree Completion:
    Preferred
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT):
    Required -- no minimum score set: however, a total score in the high 80
    percentile or above is preferred
  • TOEFL for Non-Native English Speakers:
    Minimum Paper-Based Test (PBT) Score Required: 575
    Minimum Internet-Based Test (IBT) Overall Score Required: 77
    With the following minimum section requirements:
    Reading: 19
    Listening: 14
    Speaking: 18
    Writing: 18
  • IELTS (Academic Module):
    An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 6.5 or higher will be accepted
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic Module):
    An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 58 or higher will be accepted
  • TWE for Non-Native English Speakers
    Not required, but recommended

If you do not meet the basic requirements described above, please do not submit an electronic application until you have contacted our graduate program staff.
