Civil Engineering

We are pleased with your interest in our graduate program. Before you continue with the electronic application for admission, we wish to ensure that you are familiar with the minimum requirements for admission to graduate degree study in Civil Engineering.  It is important to recognize that although satisfaction of these basic requirements does not guarantee graduate admission, failure to satisfy these requirements may lead to automatic denial of admission.

Application Deadlines:  Applications and all supporting documentation must be received on or before the deadlines listed below.

To Apply:

  • Submit online application through the Graduate School www.gradschool.purdue.edu
  • Upload copies of all transcripts to the online application. You do not need to mail official transcripts unless specifically requested to do so by Civil Engineering.
  • Current master’s students wishing to move to a doctoral degree program in this same graduate program will not be required to submit a new application.

Additional Information for International Applicants:

  • No financial statements should be mailed to the CE Grad Office. If you are accepted to Purdue University and you are an international applicant, the International Students and Scholars office will send you the correct forms to be filled out upon acceptance.

Master's Degree Program Basic Requirements

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average: 
       3.0 or equivalent required for unconditional admission.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE): 
       Required -- no minimum score has been set. 

Additional International Applicant Requirements: 

  • TOEFL for Non-Native English Speakers: For unconditional admission consideration, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:  
       Minimum Paper-Based Test (PBT) Score Required: 575
       Minimum Internet-Based Test (IBT) Overall Score Required: 90,
       with the following minimum section scores required:
        Reading: 19
        Listening: 14
        Speaking: 18
        Writing: 18
      A total score of 85 (with the minimum section requirements met) on the Internet-Based Test is required in order to be considered for conditional admission.
  • IELTS (Academic Module):
        An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 6.5 or higher will be accepted
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic Module):
        An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 58 or higher will be accepted
  • TWE for Non-Native English Speakers: 
       
    Not required, but recommended. 

Doctoral Degree Program Basic Requirements

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average: 
       
    3.0 or equivalent required.
  • Master's Degree Completion: 
       
    Not Required.  
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE): 
       
    Required -- no minimum score set. 

Additional International Applicant Requirements:
