Phillip E. Pope (Deputy Chair)

Phillip E. Pope received his bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond, Richmond, Virginia in 1968 and his master's and Ph.D. degrees in forestry at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1971 and 1974, respectively. He is a senior associate dean of the Graduate School.

He serves as vice-chair for the Purdue University Graduate Council. Previously, he served as director of the Illinois - Indiana Sea Grant College Program, National Sea Grant College Program (1994 - 2001), assistant head, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, Purdue University (1989 - 1994) and assistant director, Division of Sponsored Programs, Purdue Research Foundation (1988 - 1990).

Dr. Pope is also a professor of Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR) at Purdue University, a position he has held since 1987. He served as chair of the Graduate Committee for FNR (1984 - 1990), chair of the Grantsmanship Committee for the College of Agriculture (1990-1992), and in 1991 represented Purdue Agriculture in the State Agriculture Experiment Station System leadership program.

He has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Great Lakes Commission, and the College of Agriculture for his research and service. He has served as consultant and technical reviewer to a number of national and international agencies including, the National Academy of Sciences, the U.S. Department of Energy, the International Energy Agency, the U.S. Forest Service, the Council of Great Lakes Governors, Federal University of Vicosa and Federal University of Parana (Brazil), and Abbott Laboratories (Chicago).
