A hand written or typed letter demonstrating an appreciation
to Purdue University scholarship donors can go a long way towards
making donors feel good about their gift to you and Purdue
University. Though Purdue University does not require you
to make this effort, showing your appreciation to a donor
is simply the right thing to do.
Students should send hand-written or typed letters with
a signature to Jackie Misner, Stewardship Assistant, University Development Office, DAUC 3117A, 403 West Wood Street, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2007. Letters
will be delivered to the appropriate donor by the University
Development Office.
A list of topics you may want to include in a thank you
letter to a scholarship donor may include your class, major,
special interests, hometown, high school, Purdue activities,
hobbies, future plans, family history, stories about family
members who have attended Purdue, and maybe most importantly,
what the scholarship means to you personally.
A sample letter to a donor is shown below. Note that you
should be able to obtain the scholarship name and donor name
from your Financial Aid Eligibility Notice information.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Donor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your
support of the "Jonathan Giver Scholarship in Civil Engineering".
As one of this year’s recipients, I am grateful for
the opportunities this award will provide me. I rely on financial
aid and student loans to help finance my education. Receiving
this scholarship will help reduce my financial burdens and
motivate me to continue pursuing my education in Civil Engineering.
Attending Purdue University has always been my dream. My
mother and father met at Purdue and growing up, we often came
to campus to attend football and basketball games. I am from
Auburn, IN and graduated from DeKalb High School. I am a member
of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and I participate in the Purdue
Men’s Crew Club. I am also involved with the Beta Tau
Fraternity for construction engineering students. I also work
part-time at University Book Store. Upon completion of my
degree in May of 2005, I hope to find employment in construction
engineering and management.
Once again, thank you for supporting the students of Purdue
University. Your generosity truly makes a difference.
Sincerely,
Jack B. Thankful
