All beginning students admitted for the fall are automatically considered for some University-wide scholarships (see University-wide scholarship list) regardless of the academic program to which they have been admitted. Additionally, Purdue colleges, schools, and academic programs award scholarships (see college, school, department scholarship list below) to qualified students who are admitted to their programs.
Although some scholarships are awarded through an automatic evaluation, not all are. The tables below provide information about which scholarships or programs require an application.
Most awards are based on academic performance as defined by standardized test scores, high school GPA, and/or class rank. Others take leadership, service, and financial need into consideration. Candidates are evaluated individually, which allows scholarship selection committees to take a holistic approach in considering each student's qualifications. Purdue University strives to use scholarships to recruit and retain students who will add to the rich diversity of the campus environment.
See below for more information about Purdue scholarships for first-year students and to determine whether and when students should apply for scholarships based on the college, school, or program to which they have been admitted.
To maximize their opportunities for Purdue scholarship consideration, students should:
• apply early in their senior year for admission to Purdue to begin the following fall semester,
• file the Preliminary Financial Aid Estimate application (provided with admission application),
• file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1 of their senior year, and
• meet any necessary scholarship application deadlines.
Students may receive notification of scholarships at various times during the year. Many University-wide scholarships are awarded at the time of admission; others are awarded throughout the year. Scholarships offered by specific Purdue colleges, schools, and academic programs are awarded by March. Many need-based scholarships are awarded as part of a student's overall financial aid package, which is distributed in early April to students who file the FAFSA by March 1.
Any specific criteria listed may be for scholarship consideration only. Most University-wide scholarships are for first-year students who enroll at Purdue in the fall semester immediately following their senior year in high school.
This information is subject to change without notice. Scholarship requirements listed are minimums for consideration. Not all students who meet the minimum requirements for consideration will be awarded a scholarship. Purdue merit scholarships must be used the semester for which they are awarded.
