Incoming Freshman Aid Eligibility Notices
During the first week of April our office will begin mailing Financial Aid Eligibility Notices for the 2008-2009 academic year for incoming freshman. Only aid applicants who have filed an 08-09 FAFSA application and submitted any requests for additional information will receive a notice. For important award notice instructions visit www.purdue.edu/dfa/awardnotice.htm.
Upperclassmen Aid Eligibility Notices
We will begin notifying upperclassmen of their financial aid eligibility with an email directing them to the SSINFO website beginning in late April. Only students making satisfactory academic progress that have filed a FAFSA and responded to all requests for additional information from our office will receive an Eligibility Notice. Upper class students are not sent paper Eligibility Notices. Parents can learn how to access financial aid information for their students by clicking on the link “Accessing Student Information” on the SSINFO homepage at www.ssinfo.purdue.edu.
For additional information regarding Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards, please visit the Satisfactory Academic Progress page. Students in danger of not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards will not begin receiving their Financial Aid Eligibility Notices until June. An email to current students in danger of not completing Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards was sent in February to alert them of this possibility.
Aid status can be viewed by logging into the Financial Aid Self-Service System via the SSINFO website.
Understanding your Financial Aid Eligibility Notice
Good information about your award notice is compiled at DFA's Award Notice page.
Scholarships, grants and fee remissions are types of gift aid that do not have to be repaid. Loan and Federal Work Study are self-help forms of financial aid. Loans are a form of aid that must be repaid.
In order to use any or all Federal Stafford and/or Federal Parent PLUS loans offered on the Eligibility Notice, a Loan Request Form must be submitted to the Division of Financial Aid. Our office begins certifying Stafford and Parent PLUS loans in mid-June. Additional information regarding student and parent loans can be found on our website at www.purdue.edu/dfa.
Federal Work Study is a need-based aid program. If the student qualifies, the award is listed on their Financial Aid Eligibility Notice. Eligible students may seek Work Study employment, to help them meet their day-to-day expenses while attending school. Earned Work Study is paid through bi-weekly payroll. Work Study is not withheld for tuition and fees or room and board expenses. Students can search Work Study eligible job posting on SSINFO under the Student Life link. These listings will increase as the fall term nears. There is no job placement. Work Study can be rejected in lieu of additional loan eligibility by notifying our office.
Students that qualify for Purdue or Federal Perkins loans, as noted on their Financial Aid Eligibility Notice, will be mailed a notice regarding a promissory note to be signed. Please notify our office if you wish to reject an offer of Perkins or Purdue loan.
Fee invoices (or bills) for the fall term are mailed by the Bursar’s office in mid-July. The first day of fall 2008 classes is August 25th and tuition fees are due by August 15th. All aid received on the student’s behalf is used first to credit tuition and fees, then to credit University housing. Stafford and Parent PLUS Loans certified by our office, but not yet received by the lender will credit the bill as anticipated aid. Excess financial aid funds are disbursed to students to purchase books or pay for off-campus housing beginning approximately August 18th.
