Individuals involved in college and university business operations and management expressed frustration over lack of time to pursue personal and professional development. Conventional graduate and continuing education programs were not seen as appropriate for furthering their career aspirations. These factors prompted CACUBO to initiate strategic planning to explore educational and professional needs of higher education administrators and the eventual sponsorship of an innovative program to promote "leadership and management" development. The outcome was the creation of the CACUBO Management Institute in 1987, a dynamic and innovative professional development program that has international recognition as "The Program That Builds Leaders!"
After 10 years, the name was changed to the Collegiate Management Institute (CMI) to better reflect the mission and goals of the program. It is an intensive two-level experience that allows individuals to develop essential competencies leading to professional, technical and personal growth. In 2005, the Alumni Experience made its debut. For those who have completed Levels I and II, we invite you to participate in the third annual Alumni Experience on Wednesday and Thursday, May 21-22, during CMI week.
The Institute provides training by nationally and internationally renowned faculty. Its uniqueness stems from solid case study work involving group interaction throughout the week. During the program, participants engage in hands-on experiences that offer practical approaches to campus operations and leadership activities. Participants have opportunities to discuss work-related problems and solutions with colleagues who hold similar positions in colleges and universities across the country.
As a bonus, they receive state of the art resource materials for future reference and gain access to a network of associates for continued professional growth. Graduates of the CMI program develop increased resourcefulness, confidence, self-reliance, and willingness to make a difference.

| "CMI has been one of the most valuable experiences
in my professional career and educational experiences.
Last year I walked away knowing I wanted to change and
pursue a greater challenge. This year, I not only want
greater challenges, I want to make sure I better myself
in every area I can. I got to know a lot of really great
and different people this year. I feel I have developed
a network of friends that I will be able to go to for
help and support."

Instructional Assistance
An advisory team works in concert with faculty to help plan and evaluate course content, lead group discussions, advise participants, and facilitate instructional activities. Institute advisors are Collegiate Management Institute alumni, representing various institutions around the country. CMI graduates are valuable resources to those participating in the program, and their involvement extends opportunities for participants' personal and career development. Additional services are available to CMI participants on the Miami University campus. These include computers in the basements of Flower and Hahne Residence Halls (where Levels I & II participants stay) as well as a convenience store, food court and university bookstore in the Shriver Center. Personal items, and copy, audiovisual and computer services are also available in the Shriver Center.

"The Collegiate Management Institute not only provided additional expertise in team building and project analysis, but helped me recognize how multi-faceted we all are. Moving into Level II will allow me to continue developing communication and presentation skills which will only better my leadership potential. Also, I will re-connect with my Level I teammates who have become my life-long friends – C-4 Rocks!"
