Re: BUSINESS OFFICE MEMORANDUM NO. 32

Group Insurance

This is to supplement the information given in Memorandum No. 29, issued 6 July 1954, regarding enrollment in the group insurance plans by employees who were in service prior to 1 July 1954.

By arrangement with the insurance companies, the effective date of the insurance for such employees has been moved up from July 1 to August 1, 1954. It will not be necessary, therefore, to make premium charges for the month of July. The first salary deduction for premiums will be for the month of August.

Enrollment cards should be completed on or before August 1, and sent in to the Insurance Division of the Comptroller's Office as soon as possible after that date, so that a count can be made and payroll deduction records adjusted before August payrolls are processed.

Please note that all cards should be sent in. If you do not have the necessary percentage in your area, it may be possible for us to combine your group with other groups in such a way as to obtain the required percentage for the combined group. A brief letter stating the total number of eligibles and the number of cards enclosed will be appreciated.

After the insurance is made effective for any group (as of August 1) any individual in that particular group who failed to complete an enrollment card by August 1, may do so and come into the plans at any time during the month of August without being required to provide evidence of insurability.

We will appreciate your making certain that all eligible employees under your supervision have had the insurance plans explained to them and that they fully understand the very liberal coverages provided.
