Re: Use of Academic Facilities When Federal Funds Are Involved

During recent years-federal grants and low-interest loans have become available for use toward the construction of academic facilities from such Federal Agencies as the Office of Education, Public Health Service and the National Science Foundation. These grants are enabling us to provide considerable additional space.

The Board of Trustees agrees to various terms, conditions and assurances in order to qualify to receive the federal funds. It is the responsibility of the Vice President and Treasurer to see that these terms and conditions are met.

One of the conditions normally specifies that for a period of ten years we will use the space as designated in our request for the grant or loan. Any exceptions to the specified use must be cleared with the granting agency. Therefore, proposed changes in assignment, use or modification of space, for which federal funds have been used, must not only be cleared with the Office of Schedules and Space but also with the Vice President and Treasurer to assure compliance with the terms and conditions of our agreement with the Federal Government.

We must adhere to our agreements with the Federal Government if we are to continue to receive facility grants and favorable federal loans.
