Re: Snow Emergency Procedures at Regional Campuses
(Clarification of Memorandum No. A-7)
The general snow emergency policy for all campuses of Purdue University, as stated in Memorandum No. A-7, will be "to continue to operate at as high a degree of efficiency as can be achieved during all periods, including unusually heavy snow fall."
However, because of the urban environment, with many commuting students, the Dean and Director of the Regional Campus may determine that it is not practical to hold classes. Even though classes are canceled, all clerical and service employees will be required to report to work, unless specifically requested not to, because there are many functions and operations which must be continued under any circumstances.
Clerical and service employees who report to work late, or leave work early because of severe weather conditions, must either make up the lost time or take it as vacation or time off without pay.
If, in the judgment of the Dean and Director, the severity of the snow conditions or other circumstances permit only EMERGENCY movement of clerical and service employees, the following regulations will apply:
- A holiday (time off with pay) for clerical and service staff will be declared for the regional campus by the Business Administrator of that campus.
- Time off with pay will be granted only to those who are requested not to report to work.
- Overtime will be paid to those clerical and service employees who are requested and who report to work, and the hours actually worked should be reported in the "overtime pay" section of the Time and Attendance Cards. In addition, the normally scheduled hours should be reported as "Holiday with Pay" on the Time and Attendance Cards.
- For those clerical and service employees who are requested not to report to work, the normally scheduled hours should be reported in the "Holiday with Pay" section of the Time and Attendance Card.
