STATE
STUDENT ASSISTANCE COMMISSION OF INDIANA (SSACI)
MILITARY ACTIVATION POLICY
In an October 1, 2001 news release Governor Frank O'Bannon indicated "students who get financial aid from the state will not lose any semesters of eligibility if they are called into active military duty." SSACI has been asked to "guarantee the students eligibility for financial aid is extended for the time they are on active duty. Normally students are eligible for eight semesters." Also, "under normal procedures, students have 10 years in which to use their eight semesters of eligibility for state financial aid. O'Bannon directed SSACI to extend, by the length of time served, the 10-year limitation for students called into military service."
