Bill Moffit Tribute planned for Sept. 6

In the 122 years of Purdue “All-American” Marching Band history each director has left a distinctive mark on the program. With Paul Spotts Emrick, it was the Block P” and the “World’s Largest Drum;” with Al Wright the “Golden Girl. Bill Moffit, who will be honored by the band at the first Boilermaker halftime show on Sept. 6 is remembered for his flashy drills called “Patterns in Motion.”

 

Moffit, who died at age 82 on March 5, 2008, in Jacksonville, FL, served as the third director of the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band from 1981 to 1988. more...

All Purdue “All-American” Marching Band halftime shows performed from 2000 through present can be found at this archival link as well as most footage that is known to exist from 1935-1954. The site is a work in progress with more videos being added from 1955-2000. Check it out at purdueband.com!


Ishbah Cox joins Purdue Band faculty

Ishbah Cox, former band director at Fountain Central High School and current recruiting coordinator for engineering at Purdue, joins the Band & Orchestra faculty this fall as an instructor.


Immediately, he will assist with marching band and provide leadership for the student offices. “This is a real positive. I can’t remember the last time we had a chance to hire a new faculty member,” says Dept. Head Jay Gephart. more...


Alumni Band is a ‘go’ for 90th Indy 500

The response was terrific and the verdict is an enthusiastic thumbs-up to the Alumni Band’s participation in the 2009 Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade and Race.  We had over 200 “gung-ho” alumni express an interest in marching down the streets of Indy and strutting around the track “just one more time.”


The alumni band will march in both the parade on Saturday, May 23, and the race on Sunday, May 24.  more...

May 28 was our biggest day of sightseeing.  We drove in the mid-morning to Tiananmen Square.  It is an open courtyard approximately 800 meters by 500 meters - about the area of a 9-hole golf course.   more...



Former AAMB Director Bill Moffit dies

Bill MoffitPerhaps best remembered by his Purdue students and colleagues for his smile and his infectious enthusiasm, Bill Moffit always saw the best in people. “I never see mistakes,” he once said. “I only see better ways to do things.”


Purdue Bands is deeply saddened to report the death of Dr. William C. “Bill” Moffit at 3 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Jacksonville, FL, where he resided with his wife Jeannette. more...
