DETAILS ON APPLYING FOR A LEATH
SCHOLARSHIP
Wilbur T. Leath,
a former bandsman from Fountain County, Ind., left Purdue
University Bands a trust fund for the purpose of providing
scholarships for students in the band and orchestra. The
scholarships - valued at $1,000 - are available to incoming
Purdue students for the period of one year and carry the
following criteria:
The recipient:
- Must be an
Indiana resident
- Must be a
full-time undergraduate student
- Must be enrolled
in an assigned ensemble as an instrumental musician
- Must complete
a successful academic review based on GPA, class rank,
and SAT score
- Must participate
in an audition process
Auditions are
held on one Saturday in February. (Check with the office 765-494-0770 for upcoming
dates). Application forms, which can be downloaded from
this site, should be returned to the Bands office by mid
January of the year that you plan to enter Purdue. Audition
slots are assigned on a first-come basis; requests will
be honored in order of application.
Audition material
should include two two-octave major scales and a prepared
selection from the ISSMA group I solo list. Jazz students
should request audition materials from Purdue University
(765-494-0770) to perform in addition to the group I solo.
(Time limit: 6 minutes) Piano accompaniment will not
be allowed. Students will also be asked to sight-read.
Awards are announced by the end of April each year.
