Past jobs/life situations that have contributed to the richness of my life: Having a family has been the most rewarding thing I've done in my life. I have a wonderful husband and three great kids that I am very proud of.
Hobbies/passions that I enjoy: I love cheering for my kids at all of their sporting events. I also enjoy snow skiing and boating with my family. When I have time, I love to read.
What made/makes the Golden Girl position so special: The Golden Girl at Purdue is truly the "queen of the nation's baton twirlers" because she is treated like royalty wherever she goes. She is not only the top twirler for the Purdue Band, but an ambassador for the university. The Purdue Golden Girl epitomizes what a young, collegiate woman should be. Twenty-four lucky women have had the honor and opportunity to enjoy the lifelong benefits of being Purdue's Golden Girl. People may not remember each individual name, but the position itself is widely known and respected.
How being Golden Girl has shaped/impacted my life beyond Purdue:Becoming Purdue's Golden Girl was not only a dream come true, but a lifelong goal accomplished. I learned that goals are attainable if you are dedicated if you are dedicated, focused and diligent in your efforts. The title of Golden Girl has followed me wherever I go since leaving Purdue over 20 years ago. Living in Indiana, many people I've come in contact with recognize and respect the achievement of having been Purdue's Golden Girl. I am proud to belong to this elite group of women.
Favorite memories from being Golden Girl: One of my favorite memories as Golden Girl is my final performance at the Indianapolis 500. I had the opportunity to have my picture taken with Jim Nabors after he sang "Back Home Again in Indiana" and that picture appeared in one of the Indianapolis papers the next day. I also was invited to watch part of the race from the tower where I met Paul Newman. I was so starstruck that all I could say was "Hello Mr. Newman!" As I walked down the stairs of the tower, people were taking pictures like crazy. I felt like a star! For safety reasons, I had to have a police escort follow me back to the band buses. Talk about feeling like a celebrity.
