HOLLY FEHRMAN, 1990-94
Home: Aurora , IN
Married name: Holly Allen
Husband's name: Scott Allen
Children: Brooklynn Allen, 16 months and a baby boy due in July
Current occupation: Second grade teacher and part-time realtor
Past jobs/life situations that have contributed to the richness of my life: I taught a baton group from 8 th grade through college, and after I graduated from college. It was very rewarding to pass along skills I had learned over the years and also instill the love of twirling in other girls.
Hobbies/passions that I enjoy: I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family. I also enjoy walking, spending time outdoors, and scrapbooking.
Still involved in twirling? Until the birth of my daughter, I had instructed a baton group of 15-40 girls ranging in ages from three to 14. I had done this for more than 10 years. It's currently been put on hold until my children are older.
What made/makes the Golden Girl position so special: There are a lot of things that made the position so special. The experience alone of performing with the "All-American" Marching Band in front of such large audiences was a thrill. Football Saturdays were especially enjoyable because of Slayter, pre-game, half time, and Hovde. The position was also very special to me because I had wanted to be the "Golden Girl" from a very young age - even before I started twirling! My father played basketball at Purdue, we have always been huge fans.
How being Golden Girl has shaped/impacted my life beyond Purdue: I think being Purdue's Golden Girl for four years gave the confidence to tackle anything that comes my way in life. I also feel that through hard work, I can accomplish anything.
Favorite memories from being Golden Girl: Traveling to Singapore with the band and performing in the Chingay Parade; performing at the Indianapolis 500 Parade and race and getting my picture taken with Kelsey Grammar, Florence Henderson, and Mary Lou Retton, to name a few. I also remember Alisha (Bane) Kuckartz and I rooming together one year at the Indy 500. We were running late on race morning and the buses left us! We had to hitch a ride!
