Christy Stallings, 2003-present
Home: Johnston City , Illinois
Current occupation: Senior majoring in OLS
Past jobs/life situations that have contributed to the richness of my life: I am still in school at Purdue, but I aspire to work in Washington DC in the area of health promotion. The job skills needed for this workplace I will have made stronger by being the Golden Girl and building character.
Hobbies/passions that I enjoy: I love dancing, teaching baton, traveling around the world, spending time with friends and family, playing with my new puppy Gizmo.
What made/makes the Golden Girl position so special: I believe it was the first game, the first time I stepped onto Ross-Ade Stadium that I realized what I had accomplished. I knew that all of my hard work over the years had finally paid off, and that I was representing my family, my hometown, my state, and Purdue University .
How being Golden Girl has shaped/impacted my life beyond Purdue: Being the Golden Girl has opened so many doors in just the first year of holding the position. I love to entertain and I have had the opportunity to travel and perform around Lafayette , Michigan , Disney World, and at the Capitol One Bowl. The experience has taught me how to work with people to get the job done and the job done right. Being the Golden Girl has shaped me into a more responsible person mentally and physically.
Favorite memories from being Golden Girl: I have a lot of favorite memories as the Golden Girl and am creating more everyday. I remember that the first time I heard my name is Ross-Ade Stadium, I couldn't stop smiling. All of the hours in the gym to make me the best twirler I could be had paid off. As a college twirler, it's more than just being the best. It's about enjoying yourself and loving your university. The roar of the crowd when I run down the tunnel for pre-game is a feeling that only those who have done it will understand.
Another favorite is being with the children and doing shows. I love working with kids and showing them how much fun twirling can be. I love seeing the children's eyes get bigger and bigger as I pick up 2 and 3 batons. Seeing their joy and excitement makes it all feel real.
I love performing! I was performing at a local basketball game making a Golden Girl appearance. The gym was packed. As I began twirling the crowd began cheering, and cheering, and cheering. They were standing on there feet and clapping and yelling. This made me feel so good and gave me so much confidence. Being able to bring joy to somebody's life and putting a smile on their face makes being the Purdue Golden Girl all worthwhile!
