Applied Music
Opportunities
for serious musical growth, including private lessons and
the chance to work with other students in chamber music
ensembles, abound in Purdue Bands' Applied Music Program.
A talented enclave of professional musicians/teachers, recruited
from throughout central Indiana, serve as adjunct faculty
members. They come to campus weekly to offer private lessons
on all string, wind and percussion instruments as well as
on piano, guitar and jazz piano. A variety of lesson packages
are offered to students at a reasonable charge above and
beyond regular tuition, including a special package that
carries with in one hour of academic credit.
Chamber
music concerts and recital hours are scheduled each semester.
Individual performance opportunities also exist in concerts
presented by other groups within the Band Department, and
at various campus community events such as gallery openings.
Students
interested in private study should contact the Applied Music
Coordinator Andy King in Elliott Hall during the first
week of classes each semester to sign up for a lesson package.
Lesson fees are billed through the university centralized
account system. Full information on the lesson packages
and adjunct faculty is available on request.
